Well, how did your holiday dinner go? Did you over indulge and totally go off track with your healthy eating? As the saying goes..."get back on that horse!" It is not one meal, now and then that derails us on our healthy eating goals. It is a consistent behavior pattern...the day in and day out. Little decision upon little decision.
Now if you indulged and mightily, take a couple of days to cut back and balance that indulgence out.
If you maintained control...job well done. Food does not equal celebration...if it does, then your focus is misplaced. Spending time with your loved ones is what is truly important. Too many years to count, my focus was wrong and at the end of the day, I felt yucky. This year was good. Yes there was cake and ice cream. And pretty much everyone but me had some. I just told myself, you can have a healthy alternative when you get home and that's what I did. I didn't feel deprived at all. I think it matters how we frame the narrative. Telling yourself "go ahead, indulge it is a special occasion and make up for it in the next couple of days" is just as valid as "delay your gratification until you can make a healthier choice." For this season, I'm choosing the latter for the time being. I will never say, "I'm never eating chocolate cake again?" That would be insane!
