My husband is tired...just really, really tired of hearing me go on about how delicious food is. He and I are not wired the same. He sees food as functional necessity. Not me. I love the smell, the texture, the taste of different flavor combinations, the experience, the feelings and so on. So on February 22nd, 2017 I decided to switch my approach to food moving from junk food junkie to healthy foodie. It has been one wild ride. When I started, I hated anything green. Just ask my friends. I loved sweets even though I was a type 2 diabetic. I even had a stroke in 2013 and then I proceeded to pout for four years about how unfair it was instead of doing something about it. I became resolved. Didn't have the vaguest idea on how I was going to do it but I knew I wanted to give up the whites: white flour, white sugar and white pasta. I was also going to give up soda...I had a 2 Route 44/day addiction at that point. Not going to lie, it was hard and I had relapses now and then. Holidays and special occasions sometimes tripped me up and triggered old behaviors but now I just forgive myself and hop back on the wagon.
Anyway, that's enough reminiscing for now. I learned so much from trimhealthymama.com These two sisters have three different books that literally retrained me from being a convenience queen to a pretty decent cook. I have enjoyed the journey of retraining my thinking and my tastebuds: that my health is something to invest in and that real food is delicious even the green stuff.
So I'll be sharing foods I enjoy, recipes I've found on the internet and ones I totally make up. I hope you'll follow along.
